Muskegon Christian School

Outdoor Education

Bringing Learning to Life

Muskegon Christian School is paving the way for a unique outdoor education program right here in Muskegon. Beginning in the 2021, our pre-K program shifted to a Nature Based Preschool, meaning student spent time learning in an outdoor ‘classroom’ for a majority of the day. After having seen how successful that program was, why not expand it to all age levels?

Students have the opportunity to take advantage of the following facilities & help care for the following animals:

  • Greenhouse
  • The Cabin
  • Stump Circles for discussions
  • Firepit
  • Sheep – Edna & Diamond
  • Chickens
  • Beekeeping
  • The Garden
  • Fish tank in the lobby
  • Caring for tower gardens inside
  • Spawning salmon

We believe that the students learn soft skills necessary to be strong and competent in the workforce later on. Students are equipped to become servant workers and earth keepers.

Studies have shown learning outdoors leads to improved cognitive development, increased concentration, greater attention span, better motor coordination, reduced stress levels, and interest and enjoyment in learning, fitness, and increased ability to connect with others.

Students will know first hand the power of God and the world he created for us to love, take care of, and enjoy.
